2008 Chevrolet HHR Control Arm Bushing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the control arm bushing on 2008 Chevrolet HHR?
A: Vehicle maintenance begins with vehicle support while raising it before removing its rear tires and wheels. You must first detach the rear brake hose bracket nut from the frame while also taking off the rear brake hose bracket from the frame. Remove the rear park brake cable through its retaining clip then extract the rear Coil Springs. Temporarily reinstall lower shock absorber bolts on the rear axle before using jack stands to elevate the rear axle until the rear suspension Control Arm Bracket moves away from the vehicle body. First detach the rear suspension Control Arm Bracket's nut and bolt then slowly pull down the rear axle assembly from its bracket position. Draw marks with pen or paint on the Trailing Arm to indicate its position against the big gap found on the damaged insulator. Light taps with the j 44570 bushing remover/installer kit (J-44570-1) help seat it between the axle sleeve and the bushing flange before tightening the nut and washer by hand until they reach a snug fit. Place the j 44570-3 into the j 44570-1 which then fits through the rear suspension insulator before using j 44570 with a hammer to separate the rear suspension insulator from the rear suspension control arm. To install the Trailing Arm receive the rear suspension insulator while aligning reference marks. Place the j 44570-1 onto the rear suspension insulator before attaching the j 44570-3 and j 44570-1 and the rear suspension insulator. Use j 44570-1 first to position the j 44570-2 bearing and washer and then install the rear suspension insulator using j 44570-1 , j 44570-2 , and j 44570-3 . Set the rear axle assembly inside the rear suspension Control Arm Bracket while fitting the bracket onto the insulator ensuring the bolt head remains within the bracket interior. The bolt installation requires the nut to reach 90 n.m (66 lb ft) before an additional 30-degree rotation with the j 45059 torque angle meter. First reinstall rear Coil Springs and rear park brake cable through its retaining clip before placing the rear brake hose bracket onto the frame structure. Finally attach the rear brake hose bracket nut and tighten to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Finish by removing the jack stands then replace tire and wheel assemblies before slowly lowering the vehicle.
