2008 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve in an A/C system on 2008 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Before replacing the thermal expansion valve (TXV) one needs to recover the refrigerant from the a/c system. First remove the Evaporator tube to txv nut and disconnect the Evaporator outlet and inlet tubes from the txv unit while discarding sealing washers. Capping or taping up both Evaporator inlet and outlet tubes must occur immediately following opening to stop refrigerant system contamination. After removing txv to Evaporator bolts from the Evaporator core you should extract the txv out of the space while discarding sealing washers for the second time. Installation of the txv to the Evaporator core requires users to place new sealing washers on the core followed by correct mounting according to the fastener notice. Fasten the txv to its Evaporator bolts at 7 n.m torque (62 lb inch force). First remove the caps or tape from both Evaporator tubes before putting new sealing washers on these components. Fasten the Evaporator outlet and inlet tube to the txv while torquing the Evaporator tube nut to 17 n.m (13 lb ft). Evacuate the a/c system after component installation then recharge it while testing the component fittings with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
