The initial step for steering linkage inner Tie Rod replacement demands boot removal for a steering gear inspection; proceed with the repair if the steering linkage inner Tie Rod shows no corrosion or contamination but switch to a new steering gear if any damage is discovered. The valve end of the steering gear should face the inner Tie Rod housing when using a pipe wrench to prevent any damage. The installer should position a pipe wrench on the flats of the steering gear rack near the steering linkage inner Tie Rod before rotating the steering linkage inner Tie Rod counterclockwise using another wrench while maintaining the steering gear rack position until complete separation. All threads must be clean prior to installation and receiving a loctite(R) 262 coating on the steering gear inner Tie Rod threads which will be used to connect the steering linkage inner Tie Rod to the steering gear rack. The steering linkage inner Tie Rod must be fastened up to 100 n.m (74 lb ft) while using a pipe wrench to work on the flats of the steering gear rack alongside it. The last step includes steering gear boot installation.
