2009 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion Boot on 2009 Buick Lucerne?
A: Among replacement procedures start by using keystone clamp pliers (J 22610) to extract the outer tie rod before proceeding. The procedure begins by removing two key elements from the vehicle: the hex jam nut from the inner tie rod assembly and the tie rod end clamp from the Rack and Pinion Boot. Remove and discard the boot clamp using side cutters from the Rack and Pinion Boot before disconnecting the boot from the Rack And Pinion gear assembly. When installing the replacement boot clamp on Rack and Pinion Boot, apply grease first to inner tie rod assembly as well as Rack And Pinion gear assembly before you install the Rack and Pinion Boot onto inner tie rod assembly. The Rack and Pinion Boot must remain free of twists or puckers. The installer should manually adjust the boot position to ensure proper fitment prior to placing it in the gear assembly groove. When ready, secure the boot clamp in place on the Rack and Pinion Boot with keystone clamp pliers (J 22610) to complete the crimping process. The tie rod end clamp is installed by pinching the pliers on the Rack and Pinion Boot followed by reinstallation of the hex jam nut to the inner tie rod assembly.
