  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion Boot on 2010 Buick Lucerne?
A: Before boot replacement begin by using keystone clamp pliers (J 22610) to remove the outer tie rod from the vehicle. The process starts with removing the hex jam nut from inner tie rod assembly and then removing the tie rod end clamp from the Rack and Pinion Boot. Use the side cutters to extract and discard the boot clamp attached to the Rack and Pinion Boot. After extracting the clamp remove the boot from the Rack And Pinion gear assembly. When adding a new boot clamp to your Rack and Pinion Boot , apply grease to both the inner tie rod assembly and the Rack And Pinion gear assembly before placing the Rack and Pinion Boot onto the inner tie rod assembly . The Rack and Pinion Boot must remain free of twisting and puckering during installation. Crank the Rack and Pinion Boot if required until it fits properly into the gear assembly groove. Use keystone clamp pliers (J 22610) to crimp the boot clamp down so it securely fastens the Rack and Pinion Boot. First pinch pliers together onto the Rack and Pinion Boot to install the tie rod end clamp. After that, reinstall the hex jam nut to the inner tie rod assembly.
