2010 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion steering gear on 2010 Buick Lucerne?
A: Before you remove the Rack And Pinion, you need to use the j-42640 (steering column anti-rotation pin) to stop Steering Wheel rotation in a straight ahead position and avoid the danger of damaging the sir system. Lift and support the vehicle and take out the tire and wheel assembly. Next, underride the power steering Rack And Pinion heat shield. Unscrew the lower pinch of the intermediate shaft at the power steering Rack And Pinion and unhook the outer tie rod using the j-24319-b (steering linkage and tie rod puller). Drain pan should be placed under the vehicle and the power steering pressure hose and return hose should be disconnected from the Rack And Pinion. Depending on application, remove the variable effort steering electrical connector. On the removal of the left stabilizer shaft insulator and two Rack And Pinion bolts, extract the Rack And Pinion through the left wheel opening. Should change the power steering Rack And Pinion, the outer tie rods are transferred. For installation, mount the replacement Rack And Pinion, through the left wheel opening install and tighten the Rack And Pinion 2 bolts to 120 nm (89 lb ft.), and reinstall the left stabilizer shaft insulator. Attach the power steering return hose and pressure hose, tighten both fittings to 34 nm (25 lb ft). Remove, reestablish the variable effort steering electrical connector if outfitted, tighten the outer tie rods to the steering knuckles, stint the retaining nuts to 30 nm (22 lb ft) and tighten an extra 180 degrees. Put the intermediate shaft back to the Rack And Pinion; attach the lower pinch bolt and tighten with 47 nm (37 lb ft), and replace the power steering Rack And Pinion heat shield. Reattach the tire and the wheel assemblies, lower the vehicle, and remove the j-42640 (steering column anti-rotation pin). Lastly, bleed the power steering system, take a look for leaks, and measure and adjust the front toe as needed.
