2009 Cadillac DTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2009 Cadillac DTS?
A: The first step to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) starts with switching off the ignition and removing the negative Battery Cable. An inspection tool should be used to record the current percentages of engine oil and automatic transaxle fluid life which will be used in future maintenance. The technician removes three critical connections from the engine harness electrical connector which includes the mass air flow/intake air temperature (MAF/IAT) sensor together with the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) fresh air tube quick connect fitting and the secondary air injection (AIR) pump inlet tube quick connect fitting from the air cleaner upper housing. You can remove the Throttle Body air cleaner outlet duct while you disconnect lower housing clips and upper housing front tabs to take out the air cleaner upper housing. You must first free the ecm electrical connector lever locks at the ecm before removing electrical connectors from the ecm so you can take it out of the air cleaner lower housing. When installing the new ecm evaluate the air filter housing and maf sensor screen for signs of wreckage and breakdown. Mount the new ecm within the lower air cleaner housing and then apply electrical connection to harnesses before activating the lever locks. The upper housing front tabs should be accurately positioned while lower housing clips need to fully engage throughout the air cleaner upper housing reinstallation process. Screw the air cleaner outlet duct to the Throttle Body then lock the clamp at 3 nm (27 lb in) torque. The quick connect fitting of the air pump inlet tube goes to the air cleaner upper housing while the pcv fresh air tube attaches to the air duct. Join the maf/iat sensor and negative Battery Cable connectors before reinstallation of their electrical harnesses. Terminal programming should be executed to verify system configuration accuracy with the ecm.
