2009 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the alternator (LH2) on 2009 Cadillac XLR?
A: First you should detach the Drive Belt so you can replace the generator lh2. First disconnect the negative Battery Cable while draining the cooling system with cooling system draining and filling method (GE 47716). The front suspension crossmember must be taken off before disconnecting the generator coolant hose assembly from the generator port while removing its mounting bolt. Remove the starter cable terminal by pushing the boot backwards before unscrewing the cable nut to free the stud connection. Next disconnect the generator electrical connector. First remove the generator's upper mounting bolt, its idler pulley thru-bolt and idler pulley nut before taking out the idler pulley assembly and generator itself. Before attaching the generator, place it in position then tighten upper generator bolts to 50 nm (37 lb ft). Install the idler pulley assembly following its bolt tightening to 50 nm (37 lb ft) torque. The starter cable terminal connects to the generator while the starter cable nut achieves a torque of 20 nm (15 lb ft), allowing the boot to slide over the generator stud. Attache the generator coolant hose assembly to the generator by tightening the bolt to 27 nm (20 lb ft). Rejoin the generator electrical connector after installation. After filling the cooling system you should reconnect the negative Battery Cable and install the Drive Belt before reattaching the front suspension crossmember.
