2009 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2009 Cadillac XLR?
A: The first step in intermediate Steering Shaft replacement requires turning the wheel left to reveal the upper to lower shaft bolts while both wheels face forward while keeping the Steering Column in lock position to avoid damaging the sir coil assembly. The tool j 42640 must enter the steering access hole to secure the Steering Column in its position. First remove upper to lower intermediate shaft bolts before detaching the lower coupling shield and the lower coupling pinch bolt to separate the lower coupling from the steering gear. Remove the vehicle's lower intermediate shaft by sliding it off its upper counterpart. Lower the intermediate shaft onto the upper intermediate shaft while connecting the lower intermediate shaft coupler to the steering gear keeping safety precautions for fasteners in mind. Fits the lower coupling pinch bolt to the lower coupling then torque it to 34 nm (25 lb ft). Next install the lower to upper intermediate shaft retaining bolts and torque them to 48 nm (35 lb ft). Install the lower steering coupling shield followed by a 3.5 nm (31 lb in) torque setting on the steering coupling shield screw.
