2009 Chevrolet Aveo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the piston, connecting rod, and bearing without variable camshaft phasing on 2009 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: The replacement of Piston and connecting rod with bearing as a whole requires dismantling the Cylinder Head and intake exhaust manifolds first then stripping off the Oil Pan. Remove first the oil suction pipe bolts then the oil suction pipe from its position. Mark the connecting rod cap for position while the Piston rests at its lowest point before you take off the bolts and then remove both parts along with the lower bearing. You need to remove the upper Piston connecting Rod Bearing followed by ridge reaming the cylinder wall with caution because of sharp defective Piston Ring edges. Expand rings on the Piston with a Piston Ring expander tool before removing those rings from the Piston. Utilize j 24086-b (KM 427) to extract the Piston pin from the Piston and connecting rod combination afterwards segregate the Piston from the connecting rod. Install the Piston and connecting rod with proper alignment of their notches by first putting on the Piston pin guide followed by oil coating and inserting the Piston pin with j 24086-b (KM 427). New Piston rings require a gap measurement with a feeler gauge before possible filing to achieve correct ring sizes. The Piston Ring side clearance should be measured before selecting another ring or using a grinder to adjust its size. Use a Piston Ring expander to install the Piston oil ring with its expander along with the second oil ring and second compression ring and top compression ring in their appropriate grooves but do not over-expand any of them. Line up the oil rings and compression rings setting them opposite to Piston notches while you apply clean engine oil to rings and Piston and wall. Place the Piston inside a ring compressor while directing the lower connecting rod end in position. Place the connecting rod cap along with bearings after securing cap bolts to 25 nm (18 lb ft) and applying torque sequence with j 45059 for 30 degrees followed by 15 degrees. First install the oil suction pipe then the bottle bolts at 10 nm (89 lb in) torque while the final step is the installation of the Cylinder Head with attached intake and exhaust manifolds.
