2008 Chevrolet Aveo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the piston, connecting rod, and bearing on 2008 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: The procedure for Piston and connecting rod bearing replacement begins with disassembling the Cylinder Head and its attached intake and exhaust manifolds and subsequently unbolts the Oil Pan and oil suction pipe. Mark the connecting rod cap for position at its bottom stroke before removing connecting rod cap bolts, cap, and lower connecting rod bearing. Before proceeding with recess reaming the cylinder wall the upper Piston connecting rod bearing needs to be removed carefully while handling the Piston due to its sharp worn Piston rings. Install an expander tool on the Piston rings before expanding them for removal. The Piston pin remover/installer set (J 24086-B) lets you remove the Piston pin which connects the Piston to the connecting rod assembly. Installation includes Piston and connecting rod alignment that allows insertion of the guide through which clean oil-coated pins are inserted using the Piston pin remover/installer set (J 24086-B). Begin by choosing new Piston rings before verifying their Piston Ring gap through feeler gage measurement and deflating excess material by filing when needed. Test the side clearance on Piston rings then adjust their measurements through grinding until specifications are met. A Piston Ring expander is required to prevent over-expansion when you deploy it with the Piston oil ring and follow that with installation of the expander and second oil ring and second compression ring and top compression ring. Put a strong lubricant on the cylinder wall and Piston rings before you install the Piston by using a ring compressor with wood handle while leading the lower connecting rod end carefully. Assemble the connecting rod cap along with its bearings then apply torque of 25 n.m (18 lb ft) to the cap bolts before adjusting their tightness using the angle meter (J 45059) to a 30-degree turn followed by a 15-degree turn. After finishing the installation of the oil suction pipe with its bolts tightened to 10 n.m (89 lb in), continue by installing the Oil Pan and regarding the Cylinder Head along with the intake and exhaust manifolds.
