2007 Chevrolet Aveo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the piston, connecting rod, and bearing on 2007 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: The Cylinder Head attached to its intake and exhaust manifolds requires removal first along with the Oil Pan and oil suction pipe bolts to extract the oil suction pipe. Apply marker ink on the connecting rod cap at the Piston stroke bottom before removing the cap bolts and both connecting rod bearings and cap. Surface the cylinder wall with a ridge reamer while being cautious with the Piston to avoid injured by the worn-out rings. The Piston Ring expander tool allows you to expand Piston rings before removal. The Piston pin remover/installer set (J 24086-B) should be used to remove the Piston pin from the Piston and connecting rod assembly. Put the machined area of the connecting rod and Piston into proper position then install the Piston pin guide before putting clean oil on the Piston pin and feeding it through the assembly by using the Piston pin remover/installer set (J 24086-B). Use fresh Piston rings before measuring their gap size with a feeler gage and filing the extra materials when necessary. Piston ring side clearance measurement should be performed before grinding the Piston Ring to proper dimensions through grinding. Insert the Piston oil ring first and then the expander and the second oil ring into the base groove followed by the second compression ring before placing the top compression ring in its correct position. The Piston Ring expander enables correct ring installation within proper limits while the oil rings should overlap the compression rings with relation to the Piston's notched surface. Clean engine oil should be used to lubricate the cylinder wall before installing the Piston through a ring compressor with wood handle assistance while guiding the lower connecting rod end to prevent crankshaft journal damage. Position the connecting rod cap and bearings correctly before torquing its bolts to 25 n.m (18 lb ft) while adjusting them with the angle meter (J 45059) by turning them 30 degrees first and following with 15 degrees more. The technician should reinstall the oil suction pipe and fasten its bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in) torque while proceeding to install the Oil Pan before attaching the Cylinder Head and manifolds. The angular torque gage (KM-470-B) should be used according to the process requirements.
