2006 Chevrolet Aveo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the piston, connecting rod, and bearing on 2006 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: The necessary tools for Piston connecting rod and bearing replacement consist of Piston pin remover/installer set (24086-B) along with angular torque gage (45059). Start by undoing the Cylinder Head installed with intake and exhaust manifolds before breaking loose the Oil Pan and oil suction pipe bolts that detach the oil suction pipe. The technician should now mark the connecting rod cap with its initial position before unfastening the cap bolts. This will enable them to remove the rod cap along with its lower connecting Rod Bearing. You should first remove the upper Piston connecting Rod Bearing followed by ridge reaming of the cylinder wall. The Piston should be handled with extreme caution because worn rings could cause harm to operators before removing the Piston rings with an expander tool. Put the Piston pin remover/installer set (24086-B) to work for extracting the Piston pin from the Piston and connecting rod assembly before you separate the Piston from the connecting rod. Install this equipment by placing the connecting rod notch in alignment with the Piston notch after you put the Piston pin guide in place. The installation process requires clean oil on the Piston pin which can be inserted into position using the Piston pin remover/installer set (24086-B). New Piston rings should be chosen before using a feeler gauge to measure ring gaps and performing necessary ring material file-off procedures. The Piston Ring side clearance requires measurement before replacing any rings that fail to meet required specifications. Use a Piston Ring expander to install rings including oil ring, expander and the sequence of second oil ring, second compression ring and top compression ring into their appointed grooves without exceeding proper ring expansion limits. Place the Piston rings gaps strategically according to the Piston notch shape while applying engine oil to both the rings and cylinder wall. Install the Piston using a ring compressor with a wood handle by guiding the lower connecting rod end. Apply the connecting rod cap with bearings then torque its cap bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) while the angular torque gage (45059) delivers a 30-degree turn followed by a 15-degree turn. End with the installation of the oil suction pipe and bolts at 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) before fitting the Oil Pan which should be followed by Cylinder Head installation with intake and Exhaust Manifold attachment.
