2006 Chevrolet Aveo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the timing belt on 2006 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: A Timing Belt replacement begins by cutting off the negative Battery Cable and then removing the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor connector followed by the air intake tube from the Throttle Body along with the breather tube from the valve cover. Begin the procedure by removing bolts which secure the air filter housing then disconnect the air filter housing and proceed to remove the right front wheel alongside the splash shield. The replacement process begins with accessory Drive Belt removal and subsequent bolt extraction from the Crankshaft Pulley and its subsequent removal. The removal process starts with unbolting the front Timing Belt covers which include upper and lower components. The procedure includes Power Steering Pump mounting bolt removal when this equipment is present. Mount the Crankshaft Pulley bolt then steer the crankshaft forward using rotational motions until the timing mark on the Crankshaft Gear touches the bottom notch on the rear Timing Belt cover. Use the Timing Belt adjuster (J 42492-A) to rotate the coolant pump counterclockwise while maintaining slight relaxation of the coolant pump retaining bolts before removing the Timing Belt behind the Power Steering Pump. To install the Timing Belt position the timing marks on Crankshaft Gear and camshaft gears and follow the installation procedure. Use the Timing Belt adjuster (J 42492-A) to rotate the coolant pump clockwise until the adjust arm pointer of the Timing Belt automatic tensioner reaches the notch in the bracket. The crankshaft should be manually rotated two complete turns clockwise while using the Crankshaft Pulley bolt to achieve this. Change the coolant pump retaining bolts until the adjust arm pointer of the Timing Belt automatic tensioner matches the pointer on its bracket. Secure the bolts with a torque of 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). After removing the Crankshaft Pulley bolt you must add the front Timing Belt covers in their correct positions while tightening bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). After installing the Crankshaft Pulley bolt with a torque wrench up to 95 nm (70 ft. Lbs.), continue tightening using the angle meter (J 45059) or angular torque gage (KM-470-B) for an extra 30 degrees plus 15 degrees rotation of the bolt. Install the accessory Drive Belt only when equipped before reinstalling both right front splash shield and wheel. Install the air filter housing with bolts secured at 8 nm (71 inch lbs.) and reconnect the air intake tube along with the breather tube, iat sensor connector before attaching the negative Battery Cable.
