2008 Chevrolet Aveo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the timing belt on 2008 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: First steps to replace the Timing Belt require disconnecting the negative Battery Cable as well as the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor connector and air intake tube from the Throttle Body and breather tube from the valve cover. Begin the replacement by first removing the air filter housing bolts and air filter housing and then proceed to take off the right front wheel and splash shield. The next step includes belt accessory removal together with Crankshaft Pulley bolt and Crankshaft Pulley extraction. To uncover the Timing Belt area you must remove all front covers with their specific bolts and later the power steering pump mounting bolts if you have it on your vehicle. Fasten the Crankshaft Pulley bolt once you turn the crankshaft clockwise until the Crankshaft Gear timing mark meets the timing mark situated at the bottom of the rear Timing Belt cover. Users of the Timing Belt adjuster (J 42492-A) should loosen the coolant pump retaining bolts slightly before counterclockwise rotation of the coolant pump to release Timing Belt tension by disconnecting the belt from behind the power steering pump. Installation requires positioning the Crankshaft Gear timing mark alongside the timing mark at the rear of the belt cover as the exhaust camshaft gear pin should face the 11 o'clock direction while camshaft gears match their corresponding marks before installing the new Timing Belt. Use the Timing Belt adjuster (J 42492-A) to rotate the coolant pump clockwise while looking for the adjust arm pointer of the Timing Belt automatic tensioner to align with the bracket notch. Afterward, tighten the coolant pump retaining bolts. Use the Timing Belt adjuster to rotate the coolant pump clockwise then adjust it until the adjust arm pointer matches the pointer on the Timing Belt automatic tensioner bracket, secure the retaining bolts at 10 n.m (89 lb in). Place the Crankshaft Pulley bolt aside while fitting the upper and lower front Timing Belt covers with bolts reaching 10 n.m (89 lb in). Reposition the Crankshaft Pulley before securing its bolt with a torque wrench set to 95 n.m (70 lb ft). Complete the procedure by applying another 30 degrees plus 15 degrees of special bolt tightening using an angle meter (J 45059) or angular torque gage (KM-470-B). Install the accessory Drive Belt if present and then add the right front splash shield and right front wheel before placing the air filter housing and its bolts (torque to 8 N.m (71 lb in)) and reconnect the air intake tube and breather tube and iat sensor connector as well as the negative Battery Cable.
