  • Q: How to replace the rod bearing on 2008 Chevrolet Aveo?
    A: Remove the Cylinder Head with the intake and exhaust manifolds as attached then the Oil Pan which is held with oil suction pipe bolts. You will replace this with the Piston, connecting rod, and the bearing. Wear safety gloves and goggles when using tools as the engine components are hot. Move the Piston to the bottom of its stroke, leave mark on connecting rod cap to provide position, and remove connecting rod cap bolts, cap and lower connecting Rod Bearing. Next, take off the upper pistons connecting Rod Bearing and ridge ream the wall of the cylinder. Carefully take off the Piston since it is sharp due to worn Piston Ring. Pull out the Piston and expand and remove the Piston rings using a Piston Ring expander tool. Use the Piston pin remover/installer set (J 24086-B) to extract the Piston pin from the Piston and connecting rod assembly and then disassemble the Piston from the connecting rod. For install, align the notch on a Piston and connecting rod remove, place in to Piston pin guide make sure the Piston pin is coated with clean oil and install using the Piston pin remover/installer set (J 24086-B). Replace new Piston rings, use a feeler gauge to measure Piston Ring gap when in place, and adjust as needed. Mount the Piston oil ring, expander, second Piston oil ring, second compression ring, and top compression ring into their respective grooves, making sure to stagger them. Lubricate the cylinder wall and Piston Ring with dirty engine oil and fit Piston using a ring compressor and wood handle, guiding the lower connecting rod end very carefully. Install the bearings and the connecting rod cap, preference torque as you tighten your cap bolts (25N.m 18 lb ft), and as per the angle meter (J 45059) tighten cap frill bolts by one produce of 30 degrees, and one produce of 15 degrees. Last but not least install oil suction pipe and bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in), followed by the Oil Pan and Cylinder Head with the intake and exhaust installed. For the process, the use of angular torque gage (KM-470-B) is required.
