2008 Chevrolet Aveo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the camshaft on 2008 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: Begin by taking off the Timing Belt and engine cover bolts and then the engine cover. Disconnect the engine components by taking the breather tube and the crankcase ventilation tube from the valve cover along with the cmp sensor connector and ignition wires from each Spark Plug. Start by removing the valve cover bolts then the valve cover with its gasket while paying attention to avoid damaging the Camshaft lobes or bearing surfaces. Hold the intake Camshaft fixed before you remove first its gear bolt and afterward its intake Camshaft gear. Repetition applies for removing the exhaust Camshaft. Use the specified order to slowly remove bolted Camshaft caps before extracting the intake Camshaft together with exhaust Camshaft caps but keep their initial positions for future installation. Lubricate the engine oil into both Camshaft journals and caps before installing the intake Camshaft in its original position with the intake Camshaft cap bolts. Place the exhaust Camshaft while installing its caps and tighten them with the proper bolts for the exhaust Camshaft. The sequence of Camshaft cap bolts needs 16 n.m (12 lb ft) torque until they reach their specified tightness. Measure the end play of both camshafts before installing the intake Camshaft gear and tightening the gear bolt to 67.5 n.m (49 lb ft) under Camshaft restraint. Perform the same step for the exhaust Camshaft gear. Replace the valve cover and gasket before restoring the valve cover washers and nuts and tightening them to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Tighten the Spark Plug cover bolts to 3 n.m (27 lb in) while reinstalling the ignition wires and cmp sensor and engine cover with the engine cover bolts. Before reinstallation finish with the installation of the Oil Filler Cap while connecting the vacuum line and installing the air breather tube to the valve cover.
