2009 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intake camshaft position sensor on 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The first step for intake camshaft position (CMP) sensor replacement requires removing the intake manifold cover. The CMP sensor electrical connector needs disconnecting followed by the removal of the CMP sensor bolt and sensor. Roughly a quarter-millimeter of clearance exists between two sprocket surfaces. Tightening torque should be applied directly after meshing these surfaces. Initialization will occur within a couple seconds to a few minutes. Before installation, inspect the CMP sensor for damage and replace it if necessary. Apply clean engine oil on the CMP sensor O-ring seal before installing the CMP sensor. Route the CMP sensor bolt into position before tightening it to 10 Nm (89 lb in). Reinstall the intake manifold cover after you reconnect the intake CMP sensor electrical connector and install the CMP sensor along with its bolt.
