2009 Chevrolet Equinox A/C Accumulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in an A/C system on 2009 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: Recovery of refrigerant should be the first step before changing the A/C accumulator. Separate the front part of the bumper fascia during the following step. The bolt which fastens the A/C accumulator mounting clamp to the condenser must be detached before pulling off the clamp. The next step involves removing both the lower A/C accumulator bolt together with the A/C accumulator from the condenser. Protective caps should be applied to the condenser to stop both condenser contamination and desiccant saturation. Both protective caps must be removed from the components before you pour in the designated amount of polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil into the A/C accumulator while also installing fresh O-rings. The A/C accumulator requires attachment to the condenser section but users must tighten the lower A/C accumulator bolt to 6.5 Nm (58 lb in). You should install the A/C accumulator mounting clamp first followed by its bolt and tighten them to 4.2 Nm (37 lb in). Reposition the front bumper fascia after you complete air conditioning system evacuation and charging. The affected A/C joints will need leak detection tests using J 39400-A (Halogen Leak Detector).
