  A: Before starting the shift control cable replacement procedure set the parking brake and disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Appropriate tools will be needed for removing the battery tray. The shift control range select lever needs to be positioned in the park (P) selection. The shift control cable needs to be disconnected from the transaxle range switch lever using the fascia retainer remover (J 36346). The shift control cable retainer clip tabs need depression before removing the cable from its bracket on the shift control cable bracket. The service technician should separate the shift control lever knob followed by the center trim bezel and console trim plate and right side console trim panel. Attach the shift control cable to its bracket while assuring maximum retaining tab engagement followed by connecting it to the transaxle range switch lever.
