• Q: How to replace the brake pedal assembly for a manual transaxle on 2009 Chevrolet HHR?

  A: In order to replace the Brake Pedal assembly of a manual transaxle, remove the instrument panel insulator, then the intermediate Steering Shaft. Drum off the Brake Pedal position sensor , and clutch pedal position sensor's electrical connections. It is followed by the removal of the Brake Pedal pushrod nut and washer, followed by the pulling of the clutch pedal bracket nuts, and vacuum brake booster nutskeley. Lever the clutch pedal pushrod off the clutch pedal ball stud carefully and withdraw the Brake Pedal pushrod from the Brake Pedal pivot pin. Next, undo the rh upper Brake Pedal bracket bolt and the two lh upper Brake Pedal bracket bolts, then lower and remove the Brake Pedal and clutch pedal assembly . For installation, lift and position the Brake Pedal and clutch pedal assembly to the instrument panel tie bar , loosely install the lh two upper Brake Pedal bracket bolts , the upper Brake Pedal bracket bolt , and the vacuum brake booster nuts . Apply a light amount of high temperature grease gm p/n 12345996 (Canadian P/N 10953501) on the pushrod pins of both pedals and attach the pushrod for clutch pedal to the ball stud of the clutch pedal and assemble the pushrod of Brake Pedal to the pivot pin of the Brake Pedal. Install the Brake Pedal pushrod washer and loosely install clutch pedal bracket nuts. Then tighten the vacuum brake booster nuts to 22 nm (16 lb ft), the clutch pedal bracket nuts to 10 nm (89 lb in), and the lh and rh upper Brake Pedal bracket bolts to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Mount the Brake Pedal pushrod nut and tighten it to 10 nm (89 lb in), and connect the Brake Pedal position sensor and the clutch pedal position sensor electrical connectors. Replace the intermediate Steering Shaft and complete the cpps learn procedure if the ecm or clutch pedal position sensor is replaced. Lastly, calibrate the Brake Pedal position sensor and mount the instrument panel insulator.
