• Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2009 Chevrolet Malibu?

  A: Because it is necessary to extract the Drive Belt and the oil level indicator tube in order to replace the Oil Pan. Install the engine support fixture to allow an opportunity to remove and tighten the bolts of the Oil Pan. Next, remove the Engine Mount and lift engine by approximately 76mm(3 in) using the engine support fixture. Lift up the vehicle, and remove the upper air conditioning (A/C) compressor bolts and loosen the lower a/c compressor bolt. Install another suitable drain pan to the bottom of the Oil Pan Drain Plug and remove the Drain Plug, and then drain the engine oil before you re-install the Drain Plug until it's tight. If you have the lat model then remove the generator control module coolant pump, disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the generator control module, remove the coolant pump bolt then take out the coolant pump from the Oil Pan. Remove the four Oil Pan to transaxle bolts, then the Oil Pan bolts, and finally the Oil Pan itself, ensuring to remove any old Oil Pan sealant. For installation, first make sure the Oil Pan and the sealing surface on the lower crankcase are clean, then apply 2 mm bead of sealant to the perimeter of Oil Pan and the oil suction port opening. Mount the Oil Pan and its bolts, with the Oil Pan to transaxle bolts tightened to 75nm (55 lb ft), for the Oil Pan bolts 25nm (18 lb ft) in the same sequence. For lat models, install the generator control module coolant pump to the Oil Pan with the anti-rotation tab indexed properly, connect the coolant pump bolt (25 Nm (18 lb ft)), and reconnect the engine wiring harness. Lower the vehicle and the engine, mount the Engine Mount, and remove the engine support fixture. Lastly, attach the oil level indicator tube, the Drive Belt, and top up the oil level to the recommended level.
