2009 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the transmission pan on 2009 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Support positioning of the vehicle with proper suspensions while simultaneously using supplementary supports on the segment opposite to component removal. Start with hoisting the vehicle to a proper height before setting a drain pan beneath the transaxle Oil Pan. Remove only the front and side Oil Pan bolts before gently loosening the rear bolts by four turns. The Oil Pan requires gentle prying to safeguard the transaxle case and Oil Pan sealing surfaces before removing the gasket material. Lightly strike the Oil Pan with a rubber mallet or apply gentle pressure for draining the oil. After extracting the four Oil Pan bolts from the front and sides install the drain pan under the transaxle Oil Pan then remove the remaining four bolts and the Oil Pan and the Oil Pan Gasket. Use solvent to clean every residue of old gasket material off the transaxle case and inside surfaces of the Oil Pan Gasket before allowing everything to dry naturally in the air. Prepare the installation sequence by applying the Oil Pan Gasket followed by the Oil Pan then start all Oil Pan bolts by hand before you torque them to 12 nm (9 lb ft). Use dexron(R) vi fluid to reach the specified fill amounts during the refilling process. The fill capacity stands at 6.5 l (6.9 qt) for bottom pan removal and 9 l (9.5 qt) for complete overhaul and 12.2 l (12.9 qt) for dry capacity. Begin the engine to heat the transaxle before inspecting for fluid leaks while verifying the right fluid level.
