2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the water pump (LU3) on 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: Start the Water Pump replacement by taking off the air cleaner outlet duct first followed by the Drive Belt. Release the cooling system fluid through either vac-n-fill or static filling procedures. Reposition the hose clamps at the two locations and take off the radiator outlet hose from the surge tank and Water Pump. Switch the Water Pump inlet hose clamps before you detach the inlet hose. Using the j 41240 tool and one hand grip the Water Pump Pulley while you remove its bolts then proceed to uninstall the Water Pump bolts and take out the pump assembly. Replace the worn Water Pump gaskets while performing any required Water Pump cleanup and examination. Apply gm part number 12346004 (Canadian part number 10953480) sealant on reused Water Pump bolt threads. Mount the brand new Water Pump gaskets and insert the Water Pump before tightening its bolts to 45 nm (33 lb ft). Hold the Water Pump Pulley with j 41240 tool and fasten the pulley bolts at 25 nm (18 lb ft) torque. Point the hose clamp tangs toward their respective positions at the Water Pump end to match the top tang edge with the Water Pump inlet hose outside diameter. The Water Pump inlet hose goes directly on while inlet hose clamps are arranged in place. Place the radiator outlet hose back onto the Water Pump and surge tank followed by shifting their clamps into position. Connect both the Drive Belt and the air cleaner outlet duct in its place. Check for cooling system leaks after filling it either through vac-n-fill method or static fill setup.
