2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear differential cover and gasket on a 9.5 Inch Axle on 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: The first step to replace both the rear axle housing cover and gasket on a 9.5 inch axle starts with raising and supporting the vehicle. Begin by removing the Drain Plug before taking out rear axle cover mounting bolts and the axle housing cover . The gasket remains to be taken off last. The axle housing gasket can be used again only if it remains undamaged. Place the axle housing gasket first before setting the axle housing cover into position. Mount the bolts in position before tightening them to 40 nm torque setting (30 lb ft). Then install the Drain Plug by applying torque characteristics of 33 nm (24 lb in). Pour enough lubricant into the rear axle but maintain a fluid level between 0-13 mm (0-0.5 inch) below the fill plug hole. Use the correct fluid to manually fill the cavity until the fill plug opening's lowest point is touched. Finally, lower the vehicle.
