2009 GMC Canyon Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2009 GMC Canyon?
A: Start the replacement procedure by using suitable methods to reduce fuel system pressure. Workers must detach both the fuel feed line quick connect fitting from the Fuel Rail as well as remove the evaporative emission (EVAP) purge tube from the throttle body control module and the evap canister purge solenoid valve . Remove the Intake Manifold followed by disconnecting the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the Fuel Injector harness electrical connector. You should apply gm x-30a or equivalent spray type engine cleaner to clean the Cylinder Head and Fuel Rail assembly but avoid submerging Fuel Rail in liquid cleaning solvent. The process starts by removing all Fuel Rail bolts and extracting the assembly with care to prevent terminal corruption of electrical connectors and spray tip damage. Cap off all fittings and utilize plugs to stop any contamination cases during this operation. Prorate and dispose of the lower o-ring seals that come with every Fuel Injector. Proceed to the installation when the Fuel Rail requires no replacement. The disassembly requires removal of Fuel Rail harness clips before carrying out Fuel Rail harness removal followed by retaining clip and Fuel Injector removal and finally upper o-ring seal removal. Installation of the new upper o-ring seals starts with gm p/n 9981704 mineral oil lubrication before placing the pieces on each fuel injection tip. Next assembly requires installing the fuel injectors and retainers followed by proper harness positioning and clip application. The installation of new lower o-ring seals starts with light application of mineral oil gm p/n 9981704 before placing them on each injector tip. The Fuel Rail should be positioned on to the Cylinder Head through injector tip placement until it achieves full seating position. Fasten the Fuel Rail bolts at 10 nm torque (89 lb in). Then hook up the engine wiring harness electrical connector to attach with the Fuel Injector harness electrical connector. The installation process requires the Intake Manifold reinstall followed by evap purge tube attachment to the throttle body control module and the evap canister purge solenoid valve and the final step includes fuel feed line quick connect fitting attachment to the Fuel Rail. The technician should check for leaks by performing an ignition on/off procedure consisting of a 2-second on period followed by 10 seconds off, then another on with engine off state followed by checking for fuel leaks.
