2010 GMC Canyon Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly on 2010 GMC Canyon?
A: Before beginning replacement work on the fuel injection Fuel Rail assembly the first step is to minimize fuel system pressure using proper methods. Start with disconnecting the fuel feed line quick connect fitting from the Fuel Rail then disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) purge tube between the throttle body control module and the evap canister purge solenoid valve . First disconnect engine wiring harness from the Fuel Injector harness electrical connector while removing the Intake Manifold. Apply gm x-30a spray engine cleaner, or equivalent fluid, to clean both the Fuel Rail assembly along with the Cylinder Head while avoiding Fuel Rail liquid immersion. When removing the Fuel Rail bolts utilize caution to avoid injury to injector electrical connector terminals and spray tips by using threaded fittings caps and plug holes as sealing devices to prevent contamination. Each Fuel Injector should get its lower o-ring seal removed and discarded. The replacement process moving forward should be undertaken after completing this step unless installing a new Fuel Rail. The first step in disassembly requires removal of the Fuel Rail harness clips followed by pulling out the harness so you can then remove the Fuel Injector retainers and fuel injectors along with the Fuel Injector upper o-ring seals. Installation begins by applying a light covering of mineral oil gm p/n 9981704 to the new upper o-ring seals and using them to seal each Fuel Injector. Next, install the fuel injectors together with their retainers while placing the harness correctly between them and securing it with the clips. The installation process requires mineral oil gm p/n 9981704 to be used as a light lubricant before positioning new lower o-ring seals onto the injector tips. Feed the Fuel Rail to the Cylinder Head while inserting its injector spray tip ends before pushing it into full seating position. Paul the Fuel Rail bolts until torque reaches 10 nm (89 lb in) followed by coupling the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the Fuel Injector harness electrical connector . The tasks include reinstalling the Intake Manifold followed by attaching the evap purge tube to the throttle body control module and evap canister purge solenoid valve components and connecting the fuel feed line quick connect fitting to the Fuel Rail. The last step involves checking for fuel leaks using the following procedure: turn on the ignition with engine off for 2 seconds, wait 10 seconds with ignition off then turn on ignition with engine off while investigating for fuel leakage.
