2010 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2010 Cadillac CTS?
A: Make sure to fix the Steering Wheel straight using a steering column anti-rotation pin, a steering column lock, or a strap before you remove the intermediate Steering Shaft, so the sir system is not harmed. It is important that the Steering Wheel remains secured as you remove the steering column, intermediate shaft(s), and steering gear, and make sure not to rotate the Steering Wheel or move the front tires and wheels so the sir assembly stays centered. Make sure to mark both the intermediate Steering Shaft and the upper intermediate Steering Shaft with a scribe before you remove them for later alignment. Start with removing the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt, then the lower intermediate Steering Shaft bolt, and afterwards disconnect the lower intermediate Steering Shaft from the steering gear and the intermediate Steering Shaft from the upper intermediate Steering Shaft. Take off the lower intermediate Steering Shaft from the vehicle, but leave the intermediate Steering Shaft attached, and then mark both shafts for alignment. Following this, remove the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt and take off the intermediate Steering Shaft from the lower intermediate Steering Shaft. If you are fitting a new intermediate Steering Shaft, be sure to put the alignment marks from the old one onto the replacement part to keep the Steering Wheel centered. Connect the intermediate Steering Shaft with the lower intermediate Steering Shaft, and put the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt into the lower intermediate Steering Shaft, making sure to tighten it to 33 nm or 24 lb ft. Position the vehicle's lower intermediate Steering Shaft, while the intermediate Steering Shaft is connected, attach the intermediate Steering Shaft to the upper intermediate Steering Shaft, and tighten the after that, link the lower intermediate Steering Shaft to the steering gear and insert the lower intermediate Steering Shaft bolt, then tighten it to 48 nm (35 lb ft).
