2010 Chevrolet Corvette Air Bag Clockspring Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly on 2010 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The sir system should be disabled before beginning air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable replacement. First disable the sir system and thereafter remove the upper and lower shrouds along with the sir system. First separate the Steering Wheel and then disconnect the Steering Wheel column wire harness from its wire harness straps. First remove the retaining ring from the sir coil assembly located within the Steering Shaft. Next pull out the sir coil assembly from its normal position. During installation position the sir coil assembly in the center by keeping the wheels exactly straight ahead. Place the existing sir coil assembly onto the Steering Shaft assembly, guide it so the opening matches the horn tower while the locating bump reaches the two tabs on the lock housing cover and sleeve assembly as you push it down. New sir coil assemblies should be pre-centered on the Steering Shaft assembly before receiving the retaining ring installation. Reconnect the Steering Wheel column wire harness to the wire harness straps while routing the lower coil wire harness through the steering column. Next install the Steering Wheel. The last steps include upper shroud and lower shroud reattachment followed by sir system setup before activating system functionality again.
