How to replace the rear axle shaft on 2010 Chevrolet Express 2500?

The first step to replace the rear Axle Shaft includes raising the vehicle before removing its tire and wheel assembly. Brake caliper mounting bracket removal is followed by removing the rear axle housing cover together with its gasket. You need to pull the pinion shaft locking bolt as a first step but axles without locking differentials require pinion shaft extraction. Users should withdraw their partly removed shaft followed by rotating the case until the pinion shaft meets the housing. Use a screwdriver tool to rotate the tungsten carbide-locked (C-lock) mechanism until it aligns with the thrust block after which push the Axle Shaft flange to the differential while removing the c-lock from the button end of the Axle Shaft. Maintain the shaft position to prevent unwanted misalignment. The use of j 2619-01 (slide hammer) along with j 45859 (remover/installer) should be used to remove a difficult-to-remove Axle Shaft. To install position the Axle Shaft within the rear axle housing so its splines match up to the differential side gear. Axles without a locking differential should have the c-lock attached to the button side of the Axle Shaft. People with locking differentials should adjust the pinion shaft at halftime and place the c-lock directly on top of the thrust block before pulling the shaft flange to secure the c-lock inside the differential gear. The newly installed pinion shaft bolt must go through its hole to meet the differential case bolt hole before you tightly fasten it to 36 nm (27 lb ft) when using the 8.6 inch axle or to 50 nm (37 lb ft) when using the 9.5 ld inch axle. Install the rear axle housing cover together with its gasket before moving on to install the brake caliper mounting bracket and finally place the tire and wheel assembly. The last step is to add the correct axle lubricant into the rear axle and lower the vehicle.
