2010 Chevrolet Impala Transmission Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the transmission pan on 2010 Chevrolet Impala?
A: A vehicle needs to be raised and supported while you place a drain pan beneath the transaxle Oil Pan. Disconnect the bolts surrounding the transaxle Oil Pan starting with the ones at the front and along the sides while keeping the rear bolts slightly loose. Maintain caution when separating the Oil Pan from its mating points on the case so that oil leakage does not occur. Apply a rubber mallet or screwdriver to ease detachment of the Oil Pan while the fluid drains out. Take off the Oil Pan by removing the transaxle bolts and also extract the gasket while pulling out the pan. Check the Oil Pan and filter for metal particles, clutch facing material, rubber debris as well as engine coolant contamination and find the source to correct it. Replacing the Oil Pan flange becomes necessary if it displays any bending or distortion which cannot be straightened by human touch. The bottom oil requires removal only after checking and replacing inverted washers on Oil Pan bolts. Dry the Oil Pan and case flanges from all oil residue before cleaning both surfaces using solvent and allowing time for them to air-dry. After installing the new Oil Pan Gasket you should position the Oil Pan followed by torquing the Oil Pan bolts to 14 nm (10 lb ft). The technician should lower the car before adding fluid to the transaxle while being careful to stop at the proper level to prevent foaming and component damage. Make sure the gear selector points to park and start the engine at low speed without racing it while checking fluid level and inspecting for any sign of leakage.
