How to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

The Engine Control Module (ECM) replacement procedure requires turning off the ignition because connector handling and power disconnection must happen without causing internal damage. The metal case of the control module should not be exposed to battery voltage because it harms the device and touching connector pins or soldered components creates electrostatic discharges. The connector surfaces on the control module should be cleaned from debris before checking gaskets for correct installation to stop contamination from entering. Engine oil life records should be retrieved through a scan tool because not programming the replacement module with this information will automatically set the life meter to 100 percent resulting in an early oil change at 5,000 km (3,000 mi) from the last change point. Unplug the negative Battery Cable first before disconnecting and removing the ecm by taking out both electrical connector retainers. The installation requires attaching the bottom ecm tabs into the bracket while pushing the ecm into position before securing the retainers for both electrical connectors. Store the negative Battery Cable and program a new ecm only if required for installation.
