2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the upper intake manifold on 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: Your first task when replacing the upper Intake Manifold should involve removing all fuel pipelines and hoses. First disconnect the a/c pressure switch then disconnect the a/c compressor clutch if your vehicle has this system before moving to the control port injector module. Wiring harness clips (1, 2) and rear bracket bolts and bracket need to be removed. First remove the evap canister purge solenoid valve as well as the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor from the system. During replacement detach the quick-connect fitting at the evap canister purge solenoid valve tube while relocating the tube. Disassemble the wiring harness ground nut and wire from the right cylinder head rear section followed by removing the stud that holds the engine harness bracket to set the harness aside. Disassemble the system by taking out the PCV Valve Hose, the power Brake Booster Vacuum Hose, and the upper Intake Manifold - upper studs. Disassemble the upper Intake Manifold while discarding its gasket and o-ring from around the fuel meter body. The power brake booster vacuum fitting, o-ring seal, pcv valve cover and rear Throttle Body stud require removal before proceeding with Throttle Body and gasket removal if needed. Extract the MAP Sensor with its seal and the evap canister purge solenoid valve studs before uninstalling the purge solenoid valve. Inspection along with cleaning tasks must be performed on the upper Intake Manifold. The process of installation includes putting the purge solenoid valve and the evap canister purge solenoid valve studs into position. Both new and reused old studs need threadlock before integrating them using 10 nm (89 lb in). A new MAP Sensor seal requires clean engine oil before receiving the sensor. Tighten the rear Throttle Body stud to 9 nm (80 lb in) when reusing it while adding threadlock. Install new Throttle Body Gasket and Throttle Body before putting it on. Add a new o-ring seal to the pcv cover after applying engine oil to it before securing the pcv valve cover. Then apply new o-ring seals with engine oil to the fuel meter body. Before installation use threadlock on old Throttle Body/Intake Manifold studs when retaining them. Then put on a new upper Intake Manifold gasket and the Intake Manifold - upper. Use threadlock on front two Throttle Body studs plus Intake Manifold - upper studs before tightening them to 9 nm (80 lb in). Reinstall both the engine Brake Booster Vacuum Hose along with the PCV Valve Hose connection. Position the engine wiring harness and bracket after installing the engine wiring harness bracket stud to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Complete installation by tightening the rear bracket nut at the evap canister purge solenoid valve to 9 nm (80 lb in). Then add the ground nut and wire to the rear of the right cylinder head using 16 nm (12 lb ft) torque. Attach the evap canister purge solenoid tube quick connect fitting to the evap purge solenoid valve before you reinstall both parts and the MAP Sensor. First fit the engine wiring rear bracket onto the upper Intake Manifold then bolt it down to a torque of 10 nm (89 lb in) before installing the two engine wiring harness clips (1, 2). At this stage reinstall both the control port injector module alongside the a/c compressor clutch and the a/c pressure switch component (if vehicle maintains this configuration). Finally, install the fuel pipes/hoses.
