2010 Chevrolet Traverse Cam Gear Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Cam Gear on Bank 2 (Left Side) Exhaust on 2010 Chevrolet Traverse?
A: The replacement process of the bank 2 (Left Side) exhaust camshaft position actuator starts by taking out both the Intake Manifold and the left camshaft cover first. Start by removing from the system the left intake and exhaust camshaft position sensors after which you should proceed with extracting the left intake and exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoids. The crankshaft balancer bolt should be turned clockwise to place the camshafts in a neutral position for marking the camshaft Timing Chain and position actuators before reinstallation. Use markers to label the Timing Chain links together with the adjacent teeth found in both intake and exhaust camshaft position actuators. Position the open-end wrench to turn the camshafts toward each other and generate slack in the chain before placing the en-48313 (Timing Chain Retention Tool) legs into the camshaft actuator space until the marked line reaches the cylinder head. Position the expanding tool legs partially and slip one leg behind the Timing Chain Guide while extending the legs until they reach the Timing Chain without force. Use hand pressure on the tool before rotating the camshafts once to validate adequate slack creation. The en-48313 Timing Chain retention tool has been installed correctly to maintain positioning of the Timing Chain while servicing the camshaft end of the engine. A mechanic should use an open-end wrench on the left exhaust camshaft position actuator bolt before removing it with the bolt and thrust washer. You must position the Timing Chain onto the en-48313 tool whenever you dispose both actuators. When reinstalling the exhaust camshaft position actuator put the alignment marks on both parts in position relative to the timing marks originally made during teardown. Safely place the exhaust actuator while securing its bolt manually before taking out the en-48313 tool. Before tightening the exhaust camshaft position actuator bolt to 58 nm (43 lb ft), check the appropriate camshaft thrust washer matches the number of attaching screws on the actuator then install if needed. The procedure ends by reinstalling both left intake and exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoids along with their respective sensors and left camshaft cover before installing the Intake Manifold.
