    Q:
How to replace the Cam Gear on Bank 2 (Left Side) Exhaust on Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
The process starts with removing the lower Intake Manifold from lp1 and ly7 engines or the Intake Manifold from llt engines to replace bank 2 (Left Side) exhaust camshaft position actuator. Begin by removing the left camshaft cover then proceed to take away the exhaust and intake camshaft position sensors at the left side. Take both left intake and exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoids out of their positions. Use clockwise turns only on the balancer bolt to shift the crankshaft until you reach the neutral spot of the camshafts before noting cam positions and actuator markings for reassembly. Apply marks on the Timing Chain links using a paint stick and then place the marks against the adjacent teeth of the camshaft position actuators. Use the en-48313 Timing Chain retention tool (EN-48313) by inserting its feet towards the engine front with legs partially expanded. Use hand force on the en-48313 tool and then an open-end wrench to add space in the chain between the actuators. Put on safety equipment and dismantle the left exhaust camshaft actuator with its bolt to position it for extraction. Match the exhaust camshaft actuator marks for timing and install it manually at first before taking out the en-48313 tool. Turn the exhaust camshaft actuator bolt to 58 n.m with a 43-pound foot torque setting. Reassemble the left intake and exhaust camshaft position sensors, solenoids, left camshaft cover and either lower Intake Manifold for lp1 and ly7 engines or new Intake Manifold for llt engines.

    Q:
How to replace the Cam Gear Position Intake Actuator on GMC Terrain? Posted by Customer
    A:
The repair process for a Camshaft position intake actuator demands the removal of Camshaft cover and spark plugs before proceeding. The en-48953 (Camshaft Actuator Locking Tool) should be installed clockwise to keep the Crankshaft in position. Install retainer bolts on the Camshaft but tighten them only to 10 nm (89 lb in) before loosening the intake actuator bolt which stays in place. Start by soaking the Timing Chain and gears with solvent followed by marking both the Timing Chain and Camshaft position actuators for proper assembly. The en-48953 (Camshaft Actuator Locking Tool) needs to be removed from the system. Begin by notation of intake and exhaust Camshaft actuator positions on the Timing Chain followed by upper Timing Chain Guide bolt and guide removal together with the Timing Chain Tensioner. The en-48749 (Timing Chain Retention Tool Kit) should be installed at both the Timing Chain ends of the intake and exhaust side before removing and discarding the intake Camshaft actuator bolt. Moving the exhaust Camshaft clockwise with a small rotation breaks the Timing Chain tension followed by removing the intake Camshaft actuator from the Camshaft as it disconnects itself from the chain. Check that the aligning mark on the intake Camshaft actuator faces the Timing Chain mark before you install the Timing Chain to the actuator and secure both parts to the Camshaft. Install a new intake Camshaft actuator bolt just until it becomes tight and then take away the Timing Chain retention tools located on both sides of the Timing Chain. Reinstall the Timing Chain Tensioner and replace the en-48953 (Camshaft Actuator Locking Tool) before tightening its mechanisms. The en-45059 (Angle Meter) should be used to torque the new Camshaft actuator bolt to 30 nm (22 lb ft) along with an extra 100 degrees and torque both existing Camshaft actuator retainer bolts to 10 nm (89 lb in). Rigorous torque of 45 nm (33 lb ft) counterclockwise on the Crankshaft balancer bolt will free up the tensioner for removal after removal of the en-48953 (Camshaft Actuator Locking Tool). Place the upper Timing Chain Guide before installing its bolts at 10 nm (89 lb in) strength and replace the spark plugs while reinstalling the Camshaft cover.
