A technician needs to lift the vehicle so it becomes stationary but stable before starting Shock Absorber replacement tasks on rear-wheel drive cars. A jack stand should support the lower Control Arm while the Shock Absorber nut and bushing together with lower mounting bolts need removal before the Shock Absorber separates from the vehicle. After proper placement of the new Shock Absorber, position it correctly between the lower Control Arm mounting holes. You should bolt the lower mounting hardware first then apply torque of 25 nm (18 lb ft), before fastening the upper bushing and nut to 22 nm (16 lb ft). Eliminate safety stands when you have confirmed all fasteners are sufficiently tightened before bringing the vehicle to its normal position. Finally, dispose of the old Shock Absorber in accordance with disposal guidelines.
