How to replace the exhaust muffler on a 1500 Series V6 or V8 on 2010 GMC Sierra 1500?

To replace the exhaust Muffler on a 1500 series v6 or v8 the first action to be taken is to raise and support the vehicle and lower the spare tire. Disassemble the Catalytic Converter to exhaust Muffler nuts and, if installed with an exhaust Muffler clamp (Norma), loosen the clamp nut . If you are using a vehicle that uses 4.8l engine you will install lubricants in the 3 insulators that the Muffler assembly hanger can be inserted to make its removal easy. With a little help, you can pull out insulators (1, 2) of front and rear Muffler assembly hangers and then extract an insulator of intermediate Muffler assembly there and pull out the Muffler assembly. Lubricate the 3 insulators if you have a 5.3l or 6.0l engine and then pull the parts out again. One should be careful not to overextend the flex couple during removal or installation to prevent damaging it internally. Pull the Muffler assembly toward rear until the flange of the Muffler will clear the front frame crossmember, then remove it to a forward direction of the vehicle. For install, if fitted with 4.8l engine, coat the 3 insulators once more to facilitate install. As a team, do this with recalling the Muffler assembly and set up the insulators (1,2) on the front and rear Muffler assembly hangers and install insulator to the intermediate Muffler assembly hanger. For others with a 5.3l or 6.0l engine, repeat the process of lubrication and installation. Care should be exercised once more about the affects of the flex couple. Mount the Catalytic Converter to exhaust Muffler nuts and tighten to 45 nm (33 lb ft). For mufflers with an exhaust clamp (Norma), attach Catalytic Converter tomuffler and tighten clamp nut to 28 nm (21 lbtft). Lastly, put the spare tire back to its place and lower your vehicle.
