  • Q: How to replace the water pump (LU3) on 2010 GMC Sierra 1500?
A: Start Water Pump (LU3) replacement by taking off the air cleaner outlet duct and Drive Belt first. Let the cooling system drain before moving radiator outlet hose clamps from their positions at both surge tank and Water Pump. Then disconnect each outlet hose from both surge tank and Water Pump. Adjust the Water Pump inlet hose clamps first then disconnect the inlet hose. With j 41240 in hand grip the Water Pump Pulley and then remove its bolts along with the Water Pump bolts to extract the Water Pump unit. Restore the Water Pump location before examining and cleaning its components. When using existing fasteners apply gm part number 12346004 threads with the Water Pump bolt sealant dated 12346004. Install new Water Pump gaskets before fitting the fresh Water Pump. Hold the Water Pump Pulley using j 41240 and fasten the Water Pump bolts to 45 nm before installing pulley bolts at 25 nm under j 41240 guidance. Set the hose clamp tangs of the Water Pump end toward the front with top tang aligning directly to Water Pump inlet hose outside diameter. Place the Water Pump inlet hose while setting the inlet hose clamps next. Also attach the radiator outlet hose to both the Water Pump and surge tank under correct clamp positioning. Place the Drive Belt and air cleaner outlet duct back in place afterward you should fill the cooling system and locate any potential leaks.
