How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on Buick Rainier?

To replace the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT), sensor first turn the engine OFF and disconnect the negative battery terminal, while being cautious with the battery disconnect precautions. Drain the coolant to below the level of the ECT sensor, then unplug the ECT sensor electrical connector and remove the ECT sensor with extreme care. If reinstallation of the original sensor or a new sensor without sealant, apply thread sealer (P/N 12346004 or equal). Use caution when working with the coolant sensor because it interferes with the operations of the fuel control system. Make sure that replacement parts are the right part number for the application and note that some parts may come coated that are not meant to be used unless specified as they could affect the final torque and part operations. Mount the ECT sensor and tighten it to 16 N.m (12 lb ft). Reconnect the ECT electrical connector, and the negative battery terminal, fill up on your engine coolant.
