How to replace the brake backing plate on Buick Rendezvous?

Replacing a Brake Backing Plate starts with vehicle elevation and support followed by tire and wheel removal and then draining the Brake Drum and brake shoes. Use the Parking Brake Cable release tool (J 37043) to extract the park brake cable only from the backing plate after freeing it from the park brake actuator lever. The backing plate installation steps begin with Wheel Cylinder and wheel bearing/hub removal before backing plate removal. The installation process commences with the backing plate then the wheel bearing/hub before finishing with the Wheel Cylinder. Suspend the park brake cable onto the backing plate before you secure the cable end to the park brake actuator. Finish the installation by adding the brake shoes then adjusting them together with the park brake cable before installing the Brake Drum, tire and finally wheel before manually lowering the vehicle.
