Q: How to Properly Install a Shift Knob on Buick Enclave?
A: The procedure to replace the Shift Knob begins by using the parking brake then taking out the floor console left extension panel. To access the electrical connector for the tap up/tap down switch disconnect it while positioning the key at run without vehicle start. Carefully insert a flat-bladed tool under the trim ring of the Shift Knob to apply pressure which will drop it down by 13.0 mm (0.5 in) to reveal the Shift Knob retaining screw. The Shift Knob screw must be removed so the technician can guide the transmission tap up/tap down switch electrical harness and connector through the shift control indicator when removing the Shift Knob. The installation process begins with applying gm p/n 88861426 (Canadian P/N 88861442) lubricant to the shift lever tip. Then install the Shift Knob on the shift lever while directing the electrical harness in the right path. Install the knob screw after you tighten it to 4 nm with a torque value of 35 lb in. Press the Shift Knob trim ring upward until a distinct sound indicates its secure placement on the knob. Users should first place the shift lever in park mode and disconnect the transmission tap up/tap down switch electrical connector before turning off the key. The technician should check the shift control operates correctly across all gear settings followed by reinstalling the floor console left extension panel before letting go of the parking brake.
