To change the rear axle housing cover and gasket: first, lift and support the vehicle and next support the Differential with a transmission jack. Don't disconnect the ABS Sensor electrical connectors, and remove the Differential support bracket bolts away from the Differential support bracket and remove the rear Differential bushing bolts. The Differential can be reduced by 100-125 mm (4-5 inches) without disassembling the drive axles or propeller shaft and there is enough space to remove the rear axle housing cover. Slow down the Differential a bit, add a drain pan underneath, and pull the rear axle housing bolts out before pulling the rear axle housing cover. Clean the sealing surface of the Differential and the rear axle housing cover subsequently remove the ABS Sensor bolts and abs sensors from the cover. For installation, connect the abs sensors to the cover and tighten the ABS Sensor bolts from all sides to 7 nm (62 inch-lbs). Apply sealant uniformly on the Differential sealing surfaces, gm p/n 12346141 or equivalent, and install the rear axle housing cover to the Differential followed by rear axle housing cover bolts which should be tightened up to 60nm (44 ft. Lbs.). Raise the Differential into place and install the Differential support bracket bolts with 90nm (66 ft. Lbs.) + 38 degrees and install the rear Differential bushing bolts and tighten of 100nm (74 ft. Lbs.). Join ABS Sensor connectors , take off transmission jack , refill Differential with the proper lubricant, lower the vehicle, and finally check for leaks.
