  Q: How to replace the fuel injectors and fuel rail on Cadillac Catera?

  A: The first step to replace fuel injectors along with Fuel Rails begins with freezing the fuel system pressure while ducts need masking for foreign object protection. First clear the plenum then disconnect intermediate lines of the Fuel Rail before placing them out of reach of the Fuel Rail. First disconnect the Fuel Injector electrical connectors before unclipping the harness from the Fuel Rail and removing Fuel Rail bracket bolts which lie next to the fuel supply-return lines. The engine professional disconnects the atmospheric vent hose of the fuel pressure regulator then unbars the Fuel Rail mounting bolts that connect it to the Intake Manifold. Compressed air should be used to clean the injector entry area before removing the Fuel Rail assembly and the fuel injectors' retainers. Remove the fuel injectors from the Fuel Rail while cleaning rust and burrs from fuel pipes with emery cloth. Inspect every connection for dirt and burrs before performing necessary cleaning or replacement of components. The used o-rings which should be disposed from the injectors. The new injector o-rings should receive engine oil lubrication before installation onto the injectors. Install new retainer clips onto the Fuel Rail before placing the injectors in position and check that they align with electrical connectors which lead directly perpendicular to the crankshaft centerline. Secure the Fuel Rail with injectors onto the Intake Manifold through Fuel Rail attaching bolts while tightening them to 8 n.m (71 lb in). Connect the atmospheric vent hose of the fuel pressure regulator and reconnect all electrical connectors, retainer clips to the Fuel Rail. Secure the Fuel Rail bracket bolts which should be positioned close to fuel supply-return lines then tighten them to 8 n.m (71 lb in). After that, connect and tighten Fuel Rail supply and return lines to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Follow the steps to install the new intake plenum, reconnect the negative battery wire and run the engine for a few seconds while stopping it when it starts. Finally, check for fuel leaks.
