First, the removal of the Cylinder Head and its gasket, valve lifter guide bolts to be taken off. Use the valve lifter remover (J 3049-A) to remove the valve lifters and guide, if only some lifters are stuck on account of gum and varnish deposits. Having removed the valve lifters from the guide, arrange or label the parts for their proper replacement. Only if it is required, clean and inspect the valve lifters. On a re-installation, reused valve lifters should be installed back at their original positions. Apply some clean engine oil to lubricate the valve lifters and engine block valve-lifter bores before inserting the lifters into the lifter guides, ensuring that the flat area of the top of the lifter is parallel with the flat area in the bore of the lifter guide. Your next step should be to push the lifter all the way into the guide bore and install the valve lifters, guide to the engine block. Mount the valve lifter guide bolts and then clamp it in place with 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) and then mount the Cylinder Head and gasket.
