  • Q: How to replace the instrument panel (I/P) dimmer switch on Cadillac XLR?
    A: First remove the closeout/insulator panel and the knee bolster trim panel to access the instrument panel (I/P) dimmer switch. The retaining clip disconnects once you pull outward after removing screws underneath the switch pad. Before extracting the dimmer switch the technician must disconnect electrical connections then take out switch retaining screws. Position the I/P dimmer switch onto the I/P cluster bezel after which secure it with retaining screws applying 1.5 N.m of torque force (13 lb in). Use a torque wrench to apply 1.5 N.m (13 lb in) force when installing the retaining screw at the bottom of the switch pad. Afterward, complete the connection of the electrical connector for the I/P dimmer switch. Reinstall the knee bolster trim panel followed by the closeout/insulator panel as the last step.
