The required tools for Fuel Injector service and repair include j 38500-a (Fuel Injector Cleaner) paired with j 37287 (Fuel Line Shut-Off Adapters for cars and trucks not listed) as well as j 42964-1 (3/8 Fuel Line Shut-Off Adapter for S/T Trucks and G Van), j 42964-2 (5/16 Fuel Line Shut-Off Adapter for S/T Trucks and G Van) and j 42873-1 (3/8 Fuel Line Shut-Off Adapter for C/K Trucks) and j 42873-2 (5/16 Fuel Line Shut GM Top Engine Cleaner must be the only solution used without fuel tank addition to protect the pump and components from breakdown. Use the J 38500-A while maintaining the cleaning solution at a maximum concentration of 10% by combining 960 ml (32.4 oz) for complete dispense. The j 38500-a requires two empty gm top-engine cleaner containers (P/N 12346535) for U.S. Dealers and canadian dealers should combine 48 ml (1.62 oz) of top-engine cleaner (P/N 992872). To substitute with different top-engine cleaner mix 96 ml (3.24 oz) of selected solution with 864 ml (29.16 oz) of unleaded gasoline. Several steps follow the addition of gasoline to the cleaning tank including disabling the Fuel Pump and disconnecting both fuel feed and return lines to plug them with appropriate shut-off adapters. The j 38500-a should be connected to the
Fuel Rail and operated at 510 kpa (75 psi) of pressure until the engine stalls. Reconnect the Fuel Pump relay to its source and lines before allowing the vehicle engine to idle for another two minutes. Perform the injector balance test to check injector pressure drops but replace any injector with more than 15 kpa (2 psi) drop. Apply port Fuel Injector cleaner (P/N 12345104 or Canadian P/N 10953467) equal to one ounce per tank gallon of gasoline then instruct customers to switch fuel brands use gm port Fuel Injector cleaner every 3000 miles before conducting a vehicle test check.
