Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 Torsion Bar Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the torsion bar on Chevrolet Avalanche 1500?
A: To change the Torsion Bar, first, lift and secure the vehicle. Connect the Torsion Bar unloading/loading tool (J 36202) to the adjustment arm and the cross members, and then pull the adjustment arm to the point that the tension is relieved from the adjustment bolt and the adjuster nut. Mark the adjustment bolt and turn the number of turns required to eliminate the bolt. Next, take off and adjuster nut and then the adjustment bolt for mn8, mt1 and mw3. Having removed the j 36202, let it release and slide it out forward, releasing the adjustment arm and supporting it. First, you need to remove all bolts from the and the Torsion Bar crossmember weld nuts and then the upper links nuts and bolts followed by the removal of Torsion Bar cross member taking note of the position of the left Torsion Bar and right Torsion Bar as they differ. For installation, install the torsion bars on to the lower Control Arm, and install Torsion Bar cross member. Secure the Torsion Bar crossmember bolts to the weld nuts and torque them to 95 nm (70 ft. Lbs.). Then attach the upper mount nuts and bolts, tighten the nut to 95 nm (70 ft lbs.). Moving to the support of the adjustment arm, slide the Torsion Bar rearward until it is complete and attached the j 36202 to the adjustment arm and the crossmember. Tighten up the tension in the adjustment arm in order to load the Torsion Bar, and put in the adjustment bolt and adjuster nut, making sure you use the same number of turns as you removed. Finally, retract the j36202 and leave the tension on the Torsion Bar to be consumed by the adjustment bolt, remove the safe stands, and lower the vehicle down another control the z height, if the z height is low to be raised, twist the adjustment bolt clockwise or to increase z height or to lower z height twist the adjustment bolt counterclockwise.
