Chevrolet Avalanche 2500 Power Steering Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the power steering pump on an 8.1L engine on Chevrolet Avalanche 2500?
A: You must position a drain pan below the vehicle before beginning power steering pulley removal to change the Power Steering Pump on your 8.1l engine. Secondly detach the clamp and nut which fastens the filler neck to the Power Steering Pump while checking for equipment presence. Begin by removing front-facing bolts of the pump before moving on to power steering mounting bracket retainer bolts and finally removing bolts at the rear of the pump. Starting with the removal of the pump, disconnect first the power steering return hoses (2,4) and pressure hoses from the pump. Remove the rear bracket attaching to the Power Steering Pump as the next step. Begin installation by placing the rear bracket onto the Power Steering Pump before securing its rear bracket retaining nuts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the Power Steering Pump into the vehicle while connecting the pressure hose through its fitting point with a torque of 28 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the power steering return hose attachments (2,4) while applying retaining clamps to their fittings then bolt the components securely to the pump with 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) torque. First install Power Steering Pump mounting bracket bolts while tightening them to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.), then proceed with front bracket bolts needing the same torque value (50 Nm or 37 ft. Lbs.). The procedure ends with installing the filler neck onto the Power Steering Pump and using the nut and clamp to secure it before tightening the retaining nut to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Next, perform power steering system fill and bleeding.
