Chevrolet Cavalier Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Line Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to change the Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Line on a Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: Only double-wrapped and brazed steel pipe which follows gm specification 123m or equivalent should replace automatic transmission oil cooler pipes. A double-flared design is required for the pipe. First lift the vehicle and put it on support before placing a drain pan beneath it. Start by removing the transaxle oil cooler pipe from the transmission and then proceed to eliminate the Radiator fittings followed by the clip bolt to extract the cooler pipes. Reinstalling the parts requires correct thread engagement which stops leaks caused by crossthreaded fittings. Market the cooler pipes before attaching them to the clip bolt with 4 nm (27 inch lbs.) torque and bind the Radiator fittings to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). Attach both cooler hoses to the pipes and position the vehicle at its reduced height. The maximum fluid level in the transaxle must be observed to stop foaming while also avoiding fluid loss and shift complaints specific to potential mechanical damage. Measure the transmission fluid level correctly before checking for correct work completion and fluid leakage points.
