  • Q: How to replace the Electric Cooling Fan Motor on Chevrolet Classic?
    A: Every replacement process should start with safety precautions including replacement of any harmed and damaged fan blades or housings. Disassemble the Radiator with fan and condenser from the vehicle through battery tray and battery disconnection. The procedure requires recovery of air conditioning controls while draining the cooling system. Start by removing the upper transaxle cooler line. The hose clamp pliers (J 38185) enables repositioning of the Radiator inlet hose clamp until the hose is completely detached. Remove the surge tank outlet hose by repositioning its clamp before moving on to the corresponding Radiator outlet hose and then disconnect the Radiator vent hose plus the refrigerant pressure sensor electrical connector. After removing the discharge hose fitting from the condenser inlet you must protect it from contamination by using a secure fitting or tape on the open A/C Hose. Both the cooling fan electrical connectors and the surge tank hose bolt from the Intake Manifold need to be removed before discarding their sealing washer. The hose clamp pliers (J 38185) need to be used to adjust the surge tank outlet/Radiator outlet hose clamp while the lower closeout panel is removed after vehicle elevation. You should first detach the lower transaxle cooler line then remove the bolt from the evaporator hose to condenser and remove the evaporator hose by discarding its seal washer. Begin by removing the lower Radiator support mounting panel then take out the Radiator, fan along with condenser assembly before installing the Fan Shroud. Use a wrench tool to disconnect the fan nuts from fans (1,8) then detach fans (1,8) from fan motors (3,7) through Fan Motor bolt removal. Fasten the installed Fan Motor bolts (3,7) to the fan motors (3,7) and tighten them to 6 nm (53 inch lbs.), then connect the fans (1,8) to the fan motors (3,7) by using the fan nuts which should be tightened to 6 nm (53 inch lbs.). The installation process starts with inserting the Radiator Fan Shroud onto the Radiator and placing the Radiator fan and condenser assembly into the vehicle before securing the lower Radiator support mounting panel through its bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Set aside the protective caps from the evaporator hose before you connect it to the condenser outlet while using a new seal washer and torquing the bolt to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Reposition the surge tank outlet/Radiator outlet hose clamp with the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) before attaching the lower transaxle oil cooler line which needs tightening to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Install the Radiator inlet hose while repositioning its clamp. The technician will complete cooling system refilling procedures before charging the a/c system along with testing elements using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). The final step includes putting back the battery tray followed by repositioning the battery.
